CB Council Gives Final Green Light To New Center
The CB council gives the final green light to the new Center For the Arts building. In a 4 to 1 vote last Monday, the Crested Butte City Council acknowledged that they were taking a leap of faith by giving the go-ahead to begin the $15 Million expansion project. The official groundbreaking will take place next month while site preparation begins today with with construction fence being put in place. The Center board of directors has not yet secured the total funds or pledges needed to complete the expansion project but are confident that the funds will be raised soon with the start of construction sure to spark excitement. The Center board president, Ed Schmidt, said that once ground is broken, pledges in the amount of $7.3 Million should be collected. Schmidt says that so far, $11.3 Million has been pledged to the project and $600,000 is in the bank. That leaves a goal of another $4 Million to be raised this summer, an amount the board is confident they can achieve. The hope is to begin Phase 1 of this major construction project as quickly as possible, starting with the removal of trees, playground deconstruction and fencing. Phase 1 includes the construction of the new building to the north of the current Center For The Arts building. The expansion will increase the square footage to approximately 38,000 square feet of building space, including a larger, more flexible theater space, studios, galleries and exhibition spaces. The goal is to have Phase 1 completed in about 16 months. For more information, read the entire article: CB Council Gives Final Green Light To New Center.
