Ski season here in Crested Butte is in full swing. Although we continued to see a dryer weather pattern throughout most of Colorado during the month of January, unlike the last January where we saw record breaking snowfall, we’re all doing our snow dances and look forward to a change in storm cycles for February and March. January brought exciting news as Crested Butte locals Aaron Blunck and David Chodounsky have been named to the 2018 Olympic Team. We look forward to cheering them on as they represent Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. For scheduling and information on watching the 2018 Winter Olympics on NBC, Click Here. The February calendar is full of music and fun winter activities. We look forward to the 32nd Annual Alley Loop Nordic Marathon which takes place February 3rd here in Crested Butte. Not your average Nordic race, the Alley Loop course not only starts in the heart of historic downtown Crested Butte, it winds through the snowy alleys and over narrow bridges, finally ending back on Elk Avenue. Racers will find themselves cheered on by alley parties, and often surrounded by other participants in crazy costumes. Quite the spectacle, the Alley Loop often draws as many spectators as it does racers. Super Bowl Sunday is February 4th and there are plenty of great restaurants and bars on the mountain or in town to catch the big game. I highly recommend the couches and big screens at the Iron Horse Tap or catching the Big Game Party At Butte 66.
