CBMR Strikes a Deal to Get The Epic Pass ~
Crested Butte residents are waking up to big news and mixed emotions as CBMR strikes a deal to get the Epic Pass. Crested Butte Mountain Resort announced on Wednesday March 14th that they will be partnering with Vail Resorts and joining 63 other ski areas in the Epic Pass. With this new alliance, CBMR will be parting ways at the end of the 2017-2018 ski season with the Rocky Mountain Super Pass+, the MAX Pass and the Powder Alliance.
Joining the Epic Pass will be similar to what other resorts such as Arapahoe Basin and Telluride, who are not owned by Vail Resorts, have in place. Skiers can purchase the Epic Pass now for $899 and have unlimited and unrestricted season access to 15 Vail owned ski areas. It will also provide seven-day access to CBMR and several other ski areas around the nation. So what do we get with our Crested Butte Peak Pass and Peak Pass Plus? CBMR pass holders will receive unlimited 50% off daily lift tickets at all Vail-owned ski resorts. CBMR will remain independently owned and operated by the Mueller Family’s Triple Peaks LLC.
“As the ski industry evolves, pass alliances become important,” said Erica Rasmussen, CBMR senior marketing manager. “CBMR is elated to partner with a strong brand like Vail Resorts to bring more visitation to our incredible area during the winter months, economic growth to our community, aid in supporting our air program, and give our pass holders the benefit of 50 percent off at Vail Resorts’ global network of ski resorts.”
Local reactions to the news of this new alliance have been mixed with some very strong opinions on both sides. Many feel that CBMR pass holders are getting the short end of the stick by not getting any free access to other participating resorts while Epic Pass holders are receiving multiple free days. Others recognize the amount of new business this will potentially bring to Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte, both towns who rely greatly on tourism and growth.
