A number of stunning, winter paintings by Stephen C. Datz remain on display from his featured exhibition, A White Wilderness.
Datz loves to paint the winter landscape. His use of dramatic light and color captures winter at its most poetic. We believe he is currently making some of the most unabashedly beautiful landscape paintings available. His work has received awards at recent plein air events, such as the 2011 Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters National Show and the Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational. Last year, Datz was featured in Southwest Art Magazine in the June issue.
The Veiled Lady (above) is an extraordinary painting of our celebrated “Red Lady”, situated to the west of Crested Butte. Datz elegantly captures the break in the storm he witnessed here on New Year’s Day 2011. Trackless (below) has been a favorite of visitors in the gallery, as it portrays the sublime experience of winter solitude in the Colorado backcountry.
