Lots of community events going on in Crested Butte during the shoulder season while it snows lightly this morning. The following is from David Ochs, Director of the Chamber of Commerce.
“Holy Cow!!!! Where does the time go… By next weekend, Kebler should be open, the Annual Chamber Memorial Day Sidewalk Sale is happening, flowers are popping up, and June is so close! Sure could use a little more of that big yellow sun these days, but glad to see water levels looking pretty good despite the minimal snowfall. Trails are riding close to home, CBMBA is back in action with trail workdays, stores and restaurants are opening back up, and it’s almost time to mingle with some crowds again.
Here’s to hoping the rain and overcast skies go by the wayside soon, but have left us in good standing for fireworks, great flowers, and fun campfires!”

CBMBA Trail Work Day this Saturday, May 16
Come join the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association this Saturday for work on the Point Lookout Trail.  Meet at 9 AM at the Caves Trailhead on Cement Creek Road (1.7 miles out Cement Creek Road from Highway 135, past CB South).  Sign in, grab a tool, and start by hiking up the Caves Trail.  Turn left on Trail 409 and continue hiking until you meet the bottom of Point Lookout Trail. Turn right on Point Lookout and follow until you find our group.  The hike to the workday is several miles long, so be sure to bring sturdy shoes, plenty of food and water, and rainwear for a day outside.  Work will consist of armoring turns, widening tread in a few key areas, and backsloping along steeper traverses.  CBMBA will hike in a few extra tools ahead of time if you choose to ride to the trail work day.  We’ll have pizza, beer and a campfire afterwords at the Pioneer Guest Cabins, just a little farther up Cement Creek Road.  In case of bad weather, we will meet at the same location and work closer to Cement Creek Road on the Warm Springs Trail.  Thanks for supporting our trails, and we hope to see you out there!

Do remember to keep the flow of traffic in mind and make sure sidewalks, bikes, and cars can all pass and flow as needed.  If any specials in store, feel free to pass our way and we can push it next week.  Ads will be in the Gunnison Times and the CB News, let’s kickstart the busy season!
