2015 was an awesome year in Crested Butte there are already some cool things headed our way in 2016. As the year comes to a close, it seems like a good time to recap some of the awesome things that happened in our town at the end of the road this year.
Obviously it’s a great place to ski. Crested Butte was ranked as one of the Top Ten Ski Resorts in North America. Our slopes also earned accolades for having some of the best beginner terrain as well as some of the steepest terrain in the country and in 2015 Crested Butte Mountain Resort opened up new skiable acreage when Teocalli 2 bowl opened. If you have skied at Crested Butte Mountain Resort you know it’s a great mountain for all ability levels.
It’s a perfect place for Nordic Skiing too. Crested Butte has been mentioned as one of the coolest places for SkiMo (Ski Mountaineering) races.
The dining scene is top notch. Crested Butte’s Secret Stash and Soupcon made the list of 11 Best Colorado Restaurants outside of Denver and the Montanya Distillers are mentioned in the 25 Best Apres Ski Spots in North America and also awarded as the Best Rum in the World! Uley’s cabin was also named in the 18 Top On-Mountain Dining Spots at Ski Areas.
The Mountain biking can’t be beat. Crested Butte’s famous 401 Trail gets a lot of press, but there are lots of great biking spots. Crested Butte Mountain Resort also opens its terrain in the summer for Mountain biking.
This ski town is all about the summers too! It’s Colorado’s Other High Season. Scarp Lodge was recognized as one of the best hunting and fishing lodges and there are festivals and activities going on almost every weekend in the summer. Our famous wildflowers are here ever year, but in 2015 there were some good articles highlighting Crested Butte as the wildflower capitol. We are also ranked as one of the best towns for nearby camping and as the summer turns to fall, Crested Butte is one of the best places in Colorado for fall colors.
Our locals are stars! We have serious athletes representing Crested Butte in all kinds of events. David Chodounsky Defends his title at the US Alpine Championships and two local artists (Shaun Horne and Dawn Cohen) were recognized this year.
There was FUN everywhere in 2015! The Crested Butte Music FestivalSkiing Santas setting a world record and three huge powder days during the last weeks of the year are only a few of the reasons why this is the last great Colorado ski town!
I hope you all had a great year and I wish you well in 2016. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
