On Sunday August 28th, the Crested Butte Classic will take place. The 100… well… 99.94 mile race will take mountain bike riders through back country terrain on an intense, self supported endurance race. The Crested Butte Classic is part of the Colorado Endurance Series which hosts similar mountain biking events in places like Durango, Salida, Dolores and on the Colorado Trail. Participants will meet at the 4-way stop in Crested Butte at 5am on Sunday August 28th for a 5:30am start. From there, riders will follow a course which takes them through nearly 100 miles of mountainous terrain in Crested Butte’s back country with over 18 thousand feet of vertical- this race is no joke. The course map for 2016 can be found by using this GPS map. The course hits all of the biggest and best trails in the Crested Butte area. Notable trails include portions of the 401, 403, Teo, Strand Hill, Cement Creek Trail, Brush Creek Road and many more in between! Festivities wrap up at the Brick Oven in downtown Crested Butte for a post race celebration. This course is rated extremely difficult, however if you need more information, check out the Colorado Endurance Series website: https://coloradoes.wordpress.com/swes-event-list/cb-100/.
