The holiday season is upon us and historic Elk Avenue and downtown Crested Butte is looking very festive. Christmas came early for many with 20 inches of new snow falling over the Thanksgiving holiday, making for one of the best opening days Crested Butte Mountain Resort has seen in years. 

Local restaurants and shops are gearing up for a busy winter season, many opening back up for business this week. Be sure to check out the tasty winter menus and holiday specials by visiting our local restaurant page.

Current Market Conditions

As the snow starts to fall throughout the valley, we are seeing a bit of a break in what has been a very busy off-season. There are currently 8 single family homes over $1 million under contract, 9 less than last month. Condos and properties under a million remain in high demand and continue to go under contract quickly.

Currently there are 17 single family homes on the market in the town of Crested Butte, down three from November. Mt. Crested Butte has 22 active homes, up one from last month. Mt. Crested Butte condo inventory is starting to rise a little with 45 active condos and town homes on the market, up five from November. Rural Crested Butte inventory has not changed much from November with 12 condos and town homes and 53 single family homes on the market. Crested Butte South continues to have extremely low inventory with 5 single family homes and only 10 condos/town homes available.

We experienced 29 single family home and condo sales in the upper valley in November, up from 25 the previous month, totaling $24,540,500. Sales ranged from a Grand Lodge condo selling for $173,500 to a beautiful five bedroom home Crested Butte home on the East River selling for $1,970,500.

Land sales remained strong throughout the off-season with 14 sales in November totaling $4,137,300. Two of of those sales were 35+ acres.  


Town Tidbits

For the first time in many years, Crested Butte Mountain Resort had the Paradise Lift spinning for Opening Day. Our incredible snowmaking crews have worked day and night since Halloween making this opening day one of the best we have seen. With additional storms stacking up we are seeing more and more terrain opened each week.

Don’t miss the Light Up Night on the Mountain, Saturday, December 8th. Santa will be there to sprinkle his “magic dust” on the tree at the annual tree lighting ceremony. Bundle up and bring the little ones for photos with Santa.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is hosting their 6th Annual Santa Ski & Crawl on Saturday, December 15th. Help try and break our previous World Record of 827 skiing Santas, set in 2015. Don’t have a season pass? Don a full Santa suit and ski for just $40 that day.
