What a winter with over 21″ in the last few days! And the snow is continuing to be bestowed upon us with over 229″ to date. The skiing is so good, you have to get up here and make some turns!

The acquisition of Crested Butte Mountain Resort last September produced a burst of investor interest, followed by a steady market that will continue to benefit from Vail Resorts ability to fund capital improvements to the resort.

Initially, most opposition to Vail Resorts being our new operator centered around what Vail would do to our community. The biggest question on our minds was whether they would apply a cookie-cutter prescription to resort operations resulting in a loss of what makes Crested Butte special.

However, it seems they are respecting the community, taking their time to understand it, and applying a long-range vision so they can retain what makes us unique. Their attention this year has been focused on much needed improvements to chairlifts, as well as replacing Teocalli lift next season. We expect more improvements to be announced and respect what appears to be thoughtful planning on Vail Resort’s behalf.

According to the executive vice president of Vail Resorts’ mountain division, Chris Jarnot, “We are trying to learn how things work here. Crested Butte doesn’t fit in with our other resorts. It stands out. And that’s a very good thing, and we want to keep it that way.” For a great read we recommend this article.

In short, this valley is very welcoming but we make people earn our trust. We feel the approach of Vail Resorts towards the resort is promising to the sustainability of skiing in our valley. And that’s good for all of us.
