Big things are happening in the north end of the valley and local news is buzzing about the North Village. It was recently announced that the Town of Mt. Crested Butte will begin the process of entering into a three-way partnership to develop the 160-acre North Village parcel. This is the parcel of land that lies between Town Hall and the Snodgrass Trailhead. The partnership would be between the Town of Mt. Crested Butte, Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL) and the Alvarez Family who owns the North Village parcel. Mt. Crested Butte owns an adjacent 17 acre parcel known as Common Area F. Owners of the North Village parcel have considered Common Area F for affordable housing.

The next four months will be a due diligence period. The town council will use this time to determine how to incorporate the town’s land into the site plan. In addition, they will be considering town amenities, recreational uses, affordable housing and other community objectives. There will be several open houses held to gather public input. While this is exciting news, the planning and development is still in its early stages. In addition to the town’s plans and goals, RMBL hopes to address its own needs and goals.
