Crested Butte is well known for being a hot spot for Wildflower viewing. In the Indian Peaks Wilderness, the Devils Thumb Bypass hike offers high alpine access just west of Nederland. This hike has continental divide views, a treed hike and meadows of flowers for your enjoyment. The East Inlet Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park starts on the quieter (Grand Lake) side of the park. In less than a mile, you can take in a waterfall and an excellent wildflower field with the ever-present chance of spotting moose or other wildlife. The Three Island Lake hike in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness offers a wide range of wildflower varieties including purple larkspur. The trail, about an hour north pf Steamboat Springs follows the Elk River through aspen groves and meadows and leads to a serene lake. The Bighorn Creek Trail begins in the town of Vail and enjoys 3 1/4 miles of views and  flower dotted fields before ending at a homestead. Last but not least, Aspen to Crested Butte and the 403 trail in Crested Butte offer outstanding scenery, filled with color and beauty. Hiking to Aspen, via West Maroon Pass takes you through 11 miles of unforgettable wildflower territory. The 403 is a 4 mile trail, which joins Washington Gulch and Gothic. The variety of flower types and colors is truly incredible. Add in the spectacular views of the West Elks and this may be one of the best wildflower hikes anywhere!
