snow covered Crested Butte

January 2017 Edition

Town Tidbits

A special thank you to all of you that bought and sold this last year. With just under $37 million in sales and 117 closed transactions in 2016 you all have made me the number one Realtor in Gunnison County. I'm very humbled and grateful for the opportunity to help you all realize your dreams and receive this coveted designation of accomplishment. I'm so fortunate to be able to live in such an amazing destination and work with such incredible clientele.

The snow has been falling in Crested Butte and the ski season is off to the best start I have experienced in 12 years. Crested Butte Mountain Resort is now reporting 219 inches of snow so far this season. Click here for a real time snow report. Multiple storms rolled in last month receiving over 90" in a week's time offering early season powder days and allowing for more terrain to open. For the first time in years, the High Lift opened before January, allowing early access to extreme terrain including the Headwall, Big Chute, Paradise Cliffs and Teocalli Bowl. With more snow on the way, this winter is expected to bring some of the most amazing skiing Crested Butte has seen in recent history!

When you're not at the resort, check out the new groomed trails for nordic skiing, and fat biking. Last month, a proposal from the Crested Butte Mountain Biking Association (CBMBA) was approved by the US Forest Service to allow motorized groomers to groom nearly 37 miles of trails for non-motorized use. In December, the Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center (MCBPAC) Board of Directors announced that they have selected DLR Group|Westlake Reed Leskosky as its architectural design firm to design the Biery-Witt Center. Tom Biery, Co-President and Chair of the MCBPAC Design Committee explains “This is a very exciting time for our organization. DLR Group|Westlake Reed Leskosky is comprised of a very robust, talented, and experienced design team that offers a wide range of services. Their architectural team’s experience is strong in both performing arts and conference-event aspects, which is key to this project’s success." Although the design committee has been selected, the final fundraising goal has not yet been reached. Please consider donating to this incredible addition to the valley, which will promote art, music, culture and offer more opportunities for bringing conferences and meetings to the area. Donate here

Don't miss out on any of the fun this January. There are tons of art workshops, music events, movies and athletic events - including the World Snowboard Day and the Fat Bike World Championships - all at your fingertips in Crested Butte!
