Crested Butte Fat Bike World Championships Recap

Just over one week ago, the Crested Butte Fat Bike World Championships presented by Borealis wrapped up in Crested Butte. Singletracks.com has published a great overview of the four day event in their two part article. Part one discusses where fat biking and Crested Butte fit in mountain biking history. The author and her photographer husband take a trip up Kebler pass on their fat bikes and then head to the kick off party on Wednesday. Thursday, they check out the North Village venue and track for the solo and team races, where they capture some awesome photos of the race including some hilarious crash shots. Part two covers Friday and Saturday’s events. On Friday, the Crested Butte Regional Fat Bike Summit provided information on current fat bike related topics, then demos were available for anyone willing to try. Saturday was the big event. The Crested Butte Fat Bike World Champion Races for both Open and Elite classes were held on a 5.5 mile loop near the community school. Elite racers made six laps while open racers did three. Everyone was in good spirits as the races wrapped up, the champions were named and Lez Zeppelin rocked into the night. Congratulations to Judy Freemen (3rd), Alexis Skarda (2nd) and Amy Beisel (1st) in the Women’s Elite Race and Travis Brown (3rd), Taylor Sheldon (2nd) and Robbie Squire (1st) in the Men’s Elite Race.
