The First Annual Pond Skimming World Cup will be held on May 23rd in Sunshine Village in Banff, Canada. After Regional Qualifiers were held at Crested Butte (April 2nd), Big Sky, MT (April 16th), Stevens Pass, WA (April 17th) and Squaw Valley, CA (April 30th), the best of the best slush skimmers have been chosen and given the opportunity to represent their sport at the Championship Slush Cup! At Crested Butte Mountain Resort, the famed end-of-season ritual of dressing like a fool and voluntarily skiing into icy waters is always something that we can look forward to on closing weekend. This year, unexpected damage affected the pond liner and the Slush Huck quickly turned into a puddle jump and was cut short. Unfortunately, dozens of participants (including the 2015 reigning champion) were left high and dry without the opportunity to strut their stuff. Luckily- it was still a highly successful event and four winners were chosen to compete in the World Championship contest in Canada. Winners from Crested Butte include locals TJ Hamilton, Olympian Wendy Fisher, her son Aksel Lindenmeyr and his tandem skiing partner Asher Weinberg. The four Crested Buttians will get the chance to show off their pond domination skills this week and represent in the Powder Magazine sponsored event.
