Faster Broadband Is On The Horizon For CB ~
Residents in the north end of the valley will be happy to know that faster Broadband is on the horizon for CB. Both the towns of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte have been working to bring faster, more reliable broadband services to the north end of the valley, hopefully starting in the first quarter of 2018.
This is great news for both residents and businesses alike in Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte. We have many homeowners who make their living working remotely or from home where faster internet speeds is a must. Not only will local businesses benefit from the faster more reliable broadband services, visitors to the north end of the valley will benefit as well.
We can thank a collection of Western Slope organizations, known as Region 10, who have come together with a common mission to improve broadband services in other areas of western Colorado and are now looking at Gunnison County. The plan is for the organization to use existing fiber to bring additional internet capabilities to the Gunnison Valley and then to extend that service up to a Carrier Neutral Location (CNL), which right now is the Crested Butte Marshal’s Office off of Maroon Ave.
Both the towns of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte are participating financially in this project. Right now the estimate to bring the line from Crested Butte to Mt. Crested Butte is $300,000 with Mt. Crested Butte’s cost share being about $150,000. “But having a high-speed connection into the upper valley is important,” says David Clayton of Mt. Crested Butte. “Any ISP can be part of that connection and sell it to individual homeowners and businesses.”
So the good news is, faster Broadband is on the horizon for CB, we just have to wait for the project to be completed.
