The end of the school year is fast approaching and we’re excited to learn that the Crested Butte Community School ranks number 5 out of all Colorado schools. The U.S. News’ “Best High Schools” 2019 rankings are in and CBCS not only ranks 5 in Colorado but 236 in the entire nation! Crested Butte students rank well above expectations in overall student performance. CBCS students also rank 98.5% on Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.

These outstanding ratings may explain the continued growth in enrollment we’ve seen over the past few years. More families are moving to Crested Butte not only for the beautiful mountain lifestyle but also our amazing school. The 2018/2019 school year opened with 758 students, up from 729 the previous year. That’s more than double the enrollment of just 302 when the school opened just over 20 years ago. The Community School has the capacity to serve 750 students, a figure we surpassed this year. The Gunnison Watershed School District is working on plans to accommodate more students which include shared classroom space, modular space, and eventually a new building.
