The holiday Season is upon us and Crested Butte Mountain Resort opens in just 5 days. This is a wonderful time to focus on family and friends but the holidays can also be a stressful time for many. With so much to do, one can often be left feeling short on time, overwhelmed, and downright frazzled. Here are some tips on how to make the holiday season more joyful and less stressful.

1. Make A Budget

Start off your holiday season with a budget and stick to it. Be sure to include everything from gifts, to shipping costs, decorations, food, cards, postage, and any other miscellaneous expenses. Keep track of your spending by writing everything down and try not to go over your initial budget.

2. Think Quality, Not Quantity

Don’t overwhelm yourself or your family by trying to attend every single holiday party or event. The holiday season is not going to be ruined because you skipped an event one year. Spend your time on the things that matter most and you will be much happier than if you try and fit it all in.

3. Give Experiences Rather Than “Things”

Consider letting your friends and/or family choose a fun trip or outing over traditional presents. A fun night out or family vacation may be more enjoyable and more memorable than a new toy or gadget.

4. Simplify Your Purchases

Try picking a theme for your gifts this year. Give everyone in the family fun new pajamas or other useful gift. Or, find something that you can give to multiple people and purchase multiple quantities. Your brother-in-law and co-worker will never know you gifted them the same thing.

5. Don’t Worry About How Things “Should Be”

Don’t worry about making sure everything is absolutely perfect. Enjoy the time you have; even when minor irritations or inconveniences pop up. After all, the holidays are about celebrating and spending time with your friends, family, and loved ones.

6. Make Time For Yourself

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season but don’t forget to slow down and take a breather. Whether it’s hitting the gym, getting a massage or just curling up with a good book, a little “me-time” will be good for you.

7. Avoid Mindless Eating

Back-to-back parties and get-togethers can not only be exhausting, they can lead to unwanted weight gain. While indulging in a sweet treat here and there isn’t going to set you back, it’s easy to over indulge. Especially with the added stress of the holiday season. Try and avoid mindless eating by keeping track of the foods you’re eating and ask yourself if you really need that extra cookie.

8. Celebrate The Spirit Of The Season

Don’t forget the deeper meanings of the holiday season. Express gratitude, help those in the community who are less fortunate, or find a local cause or charity to support.

We hope some of these tips are helpful and wish you and your loved ones a wonderful winter season!
