We’re feeling that familiar shift in the air — mornings arrive a little cooler, the aspens on are just beginning to turn, and the valley is settling into its favorite season (or ours, anyway!). Peak color is anticipated to be mid-late September, but updates can be found on Travel Crested Butte’s Fall Color Update page.
 
It’s also a busy few weeks on the calendar. Mark your dates for Vinotok festivities September 13 – 21, the Chili & Beer Festival, September 12th, and Mt. Crested Butte’s Fall Festival October 3rd. View more things to do this month our Event Calendar.
 
On the market side, August told an interesting story. Countywide, home sales jumped nearly 40% year-over-year, and the Upper Gunnison Valley saw an even sharper 74% increase — a clear sign that buyers are active and deals are getting done. Prices told a more nuanced tale: the countywide median rose modestly, while the Upper Valley’s median actually declined, largely a reflection of which homes sold rather than a broad change in value. Homes are also taking a bit longer to sell than they did last year, giving both buyers and sellers a little more room to negotiate. Land told the opposite story — fewer transactions and longer time on market, especially in the Upper Valley, where patience is proving to be the operative word for both sides of the table.
